7 benefits of going on a staycation
When we think of going on vacation, we often picture heading somewhere miles away. But, in reality, you can actually enjoy rest and recuperation and get away from it all in your very own city. After all, the joy of going on vacation comes from taking a break from your routine, experiencing a new environment, and feeling refreshed afterward.
In this Pacific Prime Singapore article, we share seven benefits of going on a staycation so you can make the most of your days off without having to go far.
Why staycations are the new vacation
Routines can be stressful. Without breaking up our routine, we end up being consumed by our problems and spending too much time in our own heads. Instead of our fears and troubles being just a part of our lives, they end up taking all of our attention. However, doing something out of the ordinary changes our perspective and gives us a fresh outlook – even if we only go somewhere closeby. Staycations make it possible for us to return to our routine with regained optimism.
We have to step out of our everyday environment to recharge. Even though we usually think of trendy holiday destinations and luxury vacations, there’s actually something very refreshing about exploring your own city. Local attractions and charm usually get overlooked because we’re busy focusing on exotic travel. What’s more, we tend to take things for granted when they’re right in front of us.
Think about the last time a friend came to visit you from another country. It’s likely that what they wanted to see and do were things that you usually don’t even think about. To top it off, it’s common for natives to be surprised by the places around them when they see it from an outsider’s perspective. This insight makes it clear that new experiences are all around us – we just need to know where to look.
Seven benefits of a staycation
Staycations are becoming increasingly popular as more people are finding ways to unwind and replenish at home. There are many benefits to going on a staycation, such as the following:
1. You can save time
Even if you’re traveling somewhere relatively close, the actual door-to-door travel time is usually more than you’d like. If you consider that you already spend a lot of time commuting between home and work, then you probably don’t want to spend more time traveling for a short vacation. Aside from saving time, you also don’t have to deal with traffic, waiting around, and other hassles involved with travel.
2. Staycations are more eco-friendly
If you’re already doing what you can to reduce your carbon footprint then another incentive to take a staycation is that it is better for the environment. Planes require a lot of carbon emissions, so forgoing them is more environmentally friendly. Similarly, staying at an Airbnb or in a hotel is not as harmful to the environment, despite leaving you feeling pampered.
3. You can save money
Travel and accommodation can cost a lot of money. In fact, that’s what most people’s vacation budget goes towards. When you’re on a staycation, you can use that money towards food, drinks, pampering, and entertainment instead.
4. It gives you a reason to go to your favorite local spots
Staycations give you an excuse to hit up all of your favorite places. For instance, you can have breakfast at your favorite cafe or brunch spot. Then you can spend time browsing your favorite shops or having some drinks at your favorite cocktail bar. They essentially give you an opportunity to enjoy yourself in your top places, without the guilt.
5. You have an excuse to check out new places
Similar to visiting your favorite spots, staycations give you the opportunity to try new places that you’ve always wanted to go to. Whether it’s a restaurant that’s a bit pricier than you’d usually go for or a museum exhibit that you really want to see but feels like too much of a splurge, staycations give you an excuse to spend a bit more than normal. Plus, you’re usually saving money by staying in town anyway.
6. No-stress packing
One of the things that people hate most about traveling is the dreaded packing. Packing isn’t one of those things that you stress about only when it’s happening, it haunts you both before, after, and while you’re doing it. You have to think about what you’ll need at your destination and you’ll probably realize you forgot something once you get there. Staycations are much easier to pack for, and sometimes don’t involve any packing at all.
7. Less stress overall
Aside from no-stress packing, your overall stress levels will be much lower than if you were to travel too. There are so many things that can stress you out when you go on a trip, but staycations reduce them dramatically. What’s more, staycations make it easier to really rest since you have the comfort of familiarity. Spend the time you would spend waiting for boarding, sitting in transportation, and more by allowing your mind, body, and spirit to rest.
Fortunately, Singapore is an ideal staycation destination, regardless of how you want to spend your time.
