Resources for women in Singapore

We all need a little help sometimes. No matter who you are, nobody gets far in life with support from at least their loved ones. Of course, there are total strangers out there that put lots of time and effort into creating communities that we can use for support too. Certainly one of the groups that has a number of such organizations operating on their behalf is women. This is true all around the world, and most certainly Singapore is included. With this in mind, Pacific Prime Singapore presents the below information on groups and other resources for women in Singapore.

Resources for moms

Anyone with kids knows what a toll keeping up with them and caring for them can take on parents; and in a lot of cases, the greatest burden of raising a child falls on his or her mother. As such, several groups in Singapore are focused on being resources for women with children in the city-state and want to support families here. Here are some of them:

Breastfeeding Mothers’ Support Group – Since 2013, this support group has provided support and education for breastfeeding mothers, as well as raised public awareness. To accomplish this, the group holds workshops and talks, provides counseling for new moms, and throws social gatherings to foster the community of breastfeeding mothers in Singapore.

Ministry of Social and Family Development – This government-run organization has many different ways that it assists mothers. Among these are subsidies for childcare, job placement services, programs for troubled children, benefits for aspiring homeowners, and a baby bonus scheme that can provide cash gifts.

Women Empowered for Work and Mothering – Established in 2011, WEWAM is dedicated to empowering working mothers and helping them to create work-life balance. This organization accomplishes this by providing workshops and other events that working moms can use to learn how to actively manage their busy lives, as well as network with other working mothers.

Medical resources for women

Before we get into the entities that women can turn to for medical treatment, it’s important to address the matter of how they will pay for it. Pacific Prime recognizes that the nature of our products makes them attractive to expatriate women in Singapore. This is relevant because new expats in the city without Permanent Resident status will not have access to subsidized public healthcare. This means that they must either pay for medical treatment at private hospitals out of pocket or rely on private medical insurance to address the costs.

This is where Pacific Prime Singapore can be invaluable, as we can help find the best available plan from a number of different insurers to address your needs. For those women interested in Maternity Insurance, we actually have a resource of our own that they can make use of: the Pacific Prime Maternity Guide, which has been newly updated for 2017-2018! Beyond this, to be sure, all hospitals in Singapore will be able to address the medical needs of women, but some have more specialized facilities that solely focus on women’s health. Here are some to know:

ASC Clinic for Women – Located at Gleneagles Medical Center. For over 15 years, the ASC clinic has been providing obstetric and gynecological services, with an eye on providing women with choices and the information necessary to improve their health.

With a full complement of pediatric services, the center also provides an array of medical treatments for women. This includes radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, general and cosmetic surgery, neonatology, and treatments for infertility and sexual dysfunction.

KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital – This should be a familiar name to many Singaporeans, as KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is the largest hospital in the city-state specializing in care for women and children. Established in 1858, the hospital has a long track record of excellence and is JCI accredited. It states that it’s ‘medical strengths’ when it comes to women’s health are high-risk obstetrics, gynecological cancer treatment, urogynecological issues, and neonatology.

Raffles Women’s Centre – Raffles Women’s Centre states that it has one of the largest teams of OBGYN staff in Singapore’s private medical sector.
