This comes after two weeks of Singapore going into a virtual lockdown that was meant to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Singapore confirmed 1,037 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday (Apr 23), taking the national total to 11,178. This was the fourth day in a row that Singapore has reported a daily increase of more than 1,000 cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class='code-block code-block-1' style='margin: 8px 0; clear: both;'>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/plans\/individual-health-insurance\/?campSource=PPSG-Blog&utm_source=blog&utm_medium=content_banner&utm_campaign=banner&utm_content=single\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-774\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/WP-Banner-revamp-final-20221207_1.-Single-final.jpg\" alt=\"Individual health insurance blog\" width=\"1138\" height=\"493\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore COVID-19 lockdown extension<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore has had a low record of cases until the end of March 2020. The Lion City managed to do that by introducing strict <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/blog\/singapores-combat-covid19-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">measures to combat the COVID-19 outbreak<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since the very beginning of the pandemic, which included <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/blog\/travel-advice-for-travelers-during-the-covid-19-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">travel restrictions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/blog\/coronavirus-social-distancing-laws-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social distancing measures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and fast health services response.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Singapore won early praise for its efforts and avoided taking stronger steps to limit public movement, the city-state has all but ground to a halt since measures were put in place early this month. This due to the new community outbreaks in the dormitories of foreign workers that skyrocketed the number of cases in the city-state. From April 5, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificprime.sg\/blog\/covid-19-lockdown-singapores-quarantine-measures-for-foreign-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore put quarantine measures for foreign workers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but it seems it hasn&#8217;t stopped the virus spread. The lockdown which was set to expire on May 4 is now officially extended until June 1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Singapore COVID-19 tighter lockdown measures and extension of the circuit breaker<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the announcement of the COVID-19 \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.sg\/article\/circuit-breaker-extension-and-tighter-measures-what-you-need-to-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">circuit breaker<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019 period being extended to June 1, the restrictions are expected to be even tighter. Here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Essential services that are allowed to operate on-site have been tightened.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of businesses allowed to operate at their work premises will be reduced, especially businesses that are less critical for daily living or to maintain essential supply chains. For example, all hairdressing salons, and standalone outlets that only sell beverages, packaged snacks, confectioneries, or desserts are now closed. So what will continue to operate?<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supermarkets, convenience stores, grocery stores, and wet markets (except convenience stores in parks),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pharmacies and stores for personal care items,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) establishments with MOH-registered in-house TCM practitioner(s) are allowed to open for consultation and dispensing of related TCM medication only (No walk-in retail allowed),<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hardware stores,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opticians, by appointment only. No walk-in customers allowed,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Critical food services, including hawker centres, food courts, coffee shops, those that sell hot\/cooked snacks and bread. These can continue to remain open for takeaway and delivery services only.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additional safeguards for workplaces that remain open<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses that are allowed to continue operating must register their workers who are required to work on-site. The number of workers permitted will be reduced to the minimum needed. Employers also must put in place effective measures to avoid transmission of COVID-19 at and across workplace premises, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not allowing teams working in different locations to interact physically with one another<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implementing safe distancing measures at every workplace premises<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensuring workers wear protective face masks at the workplaces<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All workplaces will also be required to have a system that logs their workers\u2019 entry into, and exit from, their workplaces.
