Pacific Prime Singapore announces 2018 Scholarship winner

Pacific Prime Singapore is pleased to announce the winner of their 2018 Scholarship Program. Germanda Teo, a third year student studying Human Resource Management at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, received the scholarship prize – a USD 1,000 grant to go towards her education expenses. Germanda’s eloquent and informative view on this year’s essay topic, “The effects of an aging population on healthcare“, was the most outstanding of all we have received this year.

Germanda is now pursuing her career in the Human Resources field, and intends to start an internship soon: “I believe that there is a lot more to learn about HR than meets the eye, and I would love to be able to use the skills that I have obtained for a good cause in the future.” Germanda commented. “I am pleasantly surprised and immensely grateful to have won this scholarship, and I would like to thank Pacific Prime for this opportunity”.

The effects of an aging population on healthcare by Germanda Teo

Germanda’s winning essay showcases the current state of healthcare in Singapore, and how the aging population worldwide is pushing healthcare systems to change from a reactive, disease-treating first approach to one that must primarily focus on the prevention of NCDs. She emphasizes how the silver tsunami and their chronic conditions are increasing the costs of healthcare in Singapore, and propose that a crucial way to tackle this problem is the creation of community-based centers that would focus on encouraging a healthier lifestyle among the quickly aging Singaporean population.  Click here to read the full version of the winner essay.

“Germanda’s essay got our attention immediately, as her piece was logical and offered exact solutions to the said topic,” said Oliver Zeller, CEO at Pacific Prime Singapore. “As with last year’s Pacific Prime Singapore scholarship, we received a high number of applicants, and Germanda’s essay stood out as the best one this year. The stipend is well earned, and we wish Germanda all the best in her future Human Resources career”.
