Pacific Prime takes part in the Singapore Race Against Cancer

On Sunday, July 3rd the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) and Singtel teamed up to bring us the 8th annual Race Against Cancer. Since 2009, this event has done an excellent job of raising both funds for cancer treatment subsidies in the city, and awareness among the local population. Recognizing the importance of such an event for people in our community, Pacific Prime had a large group from our Singapore office on hand to take part in the race!

It was a beautiful and breezy Sunday morning, a perfect day for some exercise. This was especially pleasant given that the previous year’s event was cancelled on account of haze. Perhaps because of not being able to race last year, thousands of people showed up to take part in the 2016 edition of the race. Additionally, because of the good weather and the heat of the day, many of the runners turned out to be walkers, choosing to take care and avoid overexertion.

About the Race Against Cancer

Since the organization’s inception in 1964, the Singapore Cancer Society has dedicated themselves to reducing the impacts of cancer and maximizing the quality of life for cancer patients through advocacy and research, rehabilitation, public education, patient support and services, screening, and financial assistance. As a welfare organization that primarily functions through volunteers from the local community. The Society has run its own clinics in Singapore for decades now, including the recently opened new mammogram facility at the organization’s Multi-Service Centre, and has run numerous fundraising events to advance its cause.

While the Race Against Cancer is organized by the SCS, this year it was title sponsored by Singtel, and further sponsored and assisted by over 40 different businesses and partners.

Pacific Prime’s participation

There were 15 members of Pacific Prime Singapore’s office that participated in the race. These individuals we very happy to participate in the event and do their part to advance a great cause. Of the event, Pacific Prime Singapore General Manager, Olivier Zeller, had this to say: “Everyone who participated in the Race Against Cancer had a really fun time. We were surprised with the overall attendance. Seeing all of the people there really showed how much Singapore cares about this issue, as well as the sense of community that the Singapore Cancer Society has brought to the table. We are proud to have so many people from our office take part, and we look forward to having even more people take part next time. We are also aiming to take part in the longer race the next time around.”

This event marked yet another example of Pacific Prime’s efforts to engage and aid communities both locally and around the world. In addition to events like the Race Against Cancer, we have be involved with other programs like building schools for youth in Africa, as well as providing scholarships for university students. Pacific Prime is always happy to take part in events like the Race Against Cancer, however, as they not only help others directly, but also educate and inform people like our members on topics that can have a direct impact on their lives.

As a provider of International Health Insurance that covers people all over the world both at home and abroad, Pacific Prime has seen firsthand the toll that cancer can take on families worldwide. We were happy to do our small part to aid the Race Against Cancer, and we look forward to working with people to help them overcome this very serious illness on a daily basis going forward.
